National Preparedness Month: A Guide to Emergency Readiness

National Association of Professional Organizers Helps Americans Get Ready During National Preparedness Month

Each year, natural and man-made disasters affect millions of people across the country. Many are often unprepared to safeguard their families, homes, and businesses during such emergencies. The key to being prepared is getting organized. You need easy and immediate access to the information, supplies, and other critical resources needed when emergencies strike.

For the ninth consecutive year, the National Association of Professional Organizers (NAPO) has joined the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Ready Campaign. They promote National Preparedness Month (NPM). NPM is a month-long event observed each September. It helps educate the public and increase its overall level of readiness. Emergency preparedness tips, videos, and links to additional resources will be featured on NAPO’s website (www.NAPO.net) and Facebook page (www.facebook.com/NAPONatl) throughout September, and NAPO chapters and members will host workshops, seminars, and other local events during the month to raise awareness about emergency preparedness in their communities.

“Getting organized goes hand-in-hand with emergency preparedness. Professional organizers can help individuals, families, and businesses assess their risks. They assist in planning for emergencies. These emergencies can be natural or man-made,” says NAPO President Mary Dykstra-Novess, Certified Professional Organizer®. “The steps people take ahead of time can help them effectively deal with emergencies, and recover more quickly afterward.”
